Syndesmosis is the type of joint that has two bony surfaces united by a ligament or membrane . This is a fibrous joint between two bones and is also referred to as 'high' ankle sprain. Some of the long bones in the body such as the radius and ulna in the forearm are joined by this type of joint.
Injuries to this joint often occur in conjunction with acute bony injuries to the ankle joint.
