4.12 to the nearest tenth = 4.1

The digit in the tenths place is the 1.
Drop the digit to the right of 1 to get 4.1.
Since the digit that was dropped was 2, and 2 is from 0 to 4, the 1 remains as 1, and is not raised by 1 to 2.
