The casta system was the division among people that divided them into
different parts of society depending on their ancestry, birth, colour
and race. It was created by the Spanish elites to rank people socially
depending on their race in Hispanic America. The casta system is not to
be confused with the Hindu caste system, a system which is still in use
today.
