The invention of the steamboat allowed for the Georgia economy to accelerate its exportation of commodities such as cotton, flour, pork, whisky, and iron. Steamboats became a cheaper form of transport than flatboats, allowing for industrialists to import and export commodities with a lower investment on their end.
