Odysseus and the men accompanying him get the Calypso drunk with the wine they had brought along with them from the ship. They then proceed to sharpen a large stake and blind him.
They escape by tying themselves and clinging to the bellies of the sheep as they go out to graze so that they are not seen by the monster, even though he is blinded.
