4 multiply with 5/8 is 20/8
when the denominator ( the bottom number ) is the same, you simply subtract ( or add ) the numerator ( the top number ) only
so 20/8 - 11/8 is 9/8 (20 - 11 = 9), keeps the denominator as it was :)
