-1/2x + 2 = 3
(move the 2 to the other side of the equal sign, change the sign)
-1/2x = 3 - 2
-1/2x = 1
(swap them to make x positive)
-1 = 1/2x
-1 = 0.5x
(divide both sides by 0.5 to have x alone)
-2 = x

Therefore, x = -2.
