Whenever you heat liquids, especially near their boiling point, you should always use a stir bar or boiling stones. Why is this?

Boiling stones and stir bars serve to help the liquid to boil more calmly avoiding it to become superheated or bumping and with this preventing accidents, projection of dangerous liquids or burns.
