You need to look for common factors in the two numbers. In this example, you can clearly see that both numbers are divisible by 2.
42/28 = 21/14
Now both numbers are divisible by 7.
21/14 = 3/2
Both 3 and 2 are prime numbers so this has to be the simplest form
