One number is five more than twice as much another number. The sum of the numbers is 56. Find the numbers.

The numbers are 17 and 39

We can use a system of equation to solve this

x=2y+5

x+y=56

Solving...

2y+5+y=56

3y=51

y=17

x=2(17)+5

x=39
