The Jews who wanted to remove the Romans from Judea with violence were known as Zealots. They were founded by Joseph of Galilee in the year 6 against the Quirinius tax reform. Simon the Zealot was also one of Jesus' apostles in the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of Apostles.
