Redshift and blueshift show how light shifts to shorter or longer wavelengths as objects in space move closer of farther away from us. People looking at an object that is moving away from them see light that has a longer wavelength than it had when it was produced (a redshift), while people looking at an source coming closer see light that is shifted to shorter wavelength (a blueshift).
