1. the step sisters always thought they were better than cinderella, therefore they put her down.

2. The stepmother wanted one of her daughters to marry the prince, so she hated cinderella, especially since she escaped and went to the ball
Cinderella stepsisters are jealous of her because she is beautiful and they are not. The stepmother is mean and doesn't want Cinderella to be happy and she's ashamed of her.
