Plants absorb carbon dioxide within their system and through the process of photosynthesis and respiration, they convert this carbon dioxide into oxygen and expel it as a by-product of the photosynthetic process. Therefore, the main role of photosynthesis and respiration to the atmosphere is, the production of oxygen that organisms can use for breathing within the Earth.
