when you lose 1/10 of something, you are left with 9/10 of the original amount

10 - 1 = 9

in terms of fractions, the original amount can be represented as 10/10... if you lose 1/10, it means you subtract 1/10 from the original fraction

10/10 - 1/10 = 9/10

so when you lose 1/10 of something, you have 9/10 left
