After 9/11 the law enforcement apparatus of the U.S. began operating at a heightened level of alert. Media coverage of the events of 9/11 and those deemed responsible garnered a wave of xenophobia and prejudice against peoples of middle eastern descent in the U.S. As an immigrant, Zeitoun was an unfortunate victim trapped between the changing practices and mentalities of a pre and post 9/11 America.
