Johnson was impeached due to his crimes and misdemeanors. The House's primary charge against Johnson was with violation of the Tenure of Office Act. Although one major thing he did was remove Edwin McMasters Stanton from his position. Now that is what really sent him out the door. hope this helped, have an amazing day :)
