In the story "Rules of the Game" by Amy Tan Waverly "Meimei" Jong's mother kept upsetting her. Her mother kept showing her off like she was a trophy. As well as her mother seemed to criticize everything she did. Waverly's mother also had threaten to throw out the chess set and lectures her for losing the pieces, in addition to the already missing pieces.
