When Bob Dylan was first starting, he performed in clubs around New York (more specifically, Greenwich Village), where he picked up material from the local folk singers. He was picked up by a musical journalist Robert Sheldon who wrote about his performance in the New York Times, which led to a deal with Columbia Records and the take-off of his career.
