The
design and decoration of Gothic cathedrals indeed reinforced Christian beliefs
and practices. The floor plan was in the shape of a cross, which serves as a
constant reminder of Christ's crucifixion. Furthermore, the paintings on the glass windows of the Gothic
cathedrals depicted biblical scenes and stories of saints; this made provision for illiterate
peasants who could not understand Latin to learn the Bible visually.
