x+y = -3 ---(1)
5x-2y = -50 ---(2)

5x+5y = -15 ---(3) (multiplied (1) by 5)
5y-(-2y) = -15-(-50) ((3)-(2))
7y = 35
so y = 5

then x+5 = -3
so x = -3-5 = -8
