In an experiment, say one group is given a new type of energy pill they want to test, and another group is given a water pill, a placebo. The participants don't know what group they are in. The placebo effect occurs when a participant who received the placebo still reports the experiencing the effects of the actual pill, meaning they'd feel more energetic in this case.
